I’m normally not a fan of Kaguya’s theme, but this is probably my favourite song of the album.

Been loving this album, mainly the second half.

Notes: I had to look up 蟲毒, and apparently it’s a thing originating in China from old times where you get a bunch of bugs together and isolate them in a jar, wait a while, and afterwards, you use the last one standing and it haunts your house. This brings good fortune to you, but you gotta offer humans, or you’ll be killed. In order to not die, you dump all your new wealth on the streets, and the next person to pick it up will be the new haunting victim. Because they don’t know about it all though, they will likely be killed by the bug. I tried to keep it simple for the context of the song though.

断罪の天秤 | Scales of Judgement

Requested by Psych, add this to my list of my worst translations ever.

Notes: When there’s English in a song, I tend to want to keep it in the same position as it is in the original lyrics, no matter the cost. As well, some of this simply makes no sense. I’m looking at you, fudge.

Came in to an unexpected shift in subject here. As usual, with Japanese songs, personal pronouns are generally not important in lyrics, which is why I tend to keep things as vague as I possibly can. Usually, unless it is clear otherwise, you assume the speaker is talking about herself. Here, we find something halfway through the song: “This body” (interpreted as “my body”), and “the girl,” which suddenly seems to shift everything said in previous stanzas as being about the girl instead. To give an idea of this on a small scale, imagine the sentence “Went to the store, had no money, came back, asked me for change, then he went back.” Go through a couple stanzas like that without any pronouns and you’d think that it was someone speaking about themselves until the sudden change.
