This is a song with lots of dream imagery. I’ve actually thought about working on this a while back, but I completely forgot about it. Now, lets go into some lyric analysis, it’s been a while since I’ve done this it seems, or that I felt I’ve needed to do this.
-The first stanza, try looking at that as the colour to drip being the next dream to come. What could the old door knob be? Perhaps that refers to the previous dream. Being about to end, it calls for the next dream so that the speaker can go through the doorway. With that assumption, it’s easy to understand what the third line means.
-The second stanza refers to the ticking and ringing of a clock, if that wasn’t too clear.
-The third stanza seems to be saying that the speaker’s dreams contain memories from her past.
And that’s all that really needs clarification in this song I think.
