Requested by The Hakurou Tengu, been a while since I heard a Shinra-Bansho.

Having started to read light novels in Japanese, I have to say again that I still find it funny how much more complete the grammar is in actual writing compared to lyrics. Japanese can be a vague language, sure, but only when it wants to be, and I try to best reflect that vagueness (i.e. lack of pronouns or subjects) in translations whenever possible (whenever it doesn’t kill the English). I’m not sure whether that’s good or bad, but eh.

夢の雫 | Droplets of Dreams

This is a song with lots of dream imagery. I’ve actually thought about working on this a while back, but I completely forgot about it. Now, lets go into some lyric analysis, it’s been a while since I’ve done this it seems, or that I felt I’ve needed to do this.

-The first stanza, try looking at that as the colour to drip being the next dream to come. What could the old door knob be? Perhaps that refers to the previous dream. Being about to end, it calls for the next dream so that the speaker can go through the doorway. With that assumption, it’s easy to understand what the third line means.

-The second stanza refers to the ticking and ringing of a clock, if that wasn’t too clear.

-The third stanza seems to be saying that the speaker’s dreams contain memories from her past.

And that’s all that really needs clarification in this song I think.

靴の音を、響かせて、その手を | Those Hands, Let Resound, the Sound of These Shoes

The touhou wiki has the song title as “Let the Sounds of Those Shoes Resound, with Your Hands”  in English, but personally, I think that’d be more fitting if it said 「その手で」 in the title instead, so here we are with this one. Lets see, this song would seem to be about Meiling all alone back in China, waiting to be taken in by someone (Who, as we know, would come to be Remilia). It’s neat to see how it changes from “for someone” to “for you” throughout the song.

One of the stranger words from this song would have to be 生まれ溢れて. Actually, its whole stanza there feels pretty ugly in English as I have it, but there’s not much you can do there I don’t think.
