This “scarlet chain” definitely refers to Remilia and her power, no matter how you look at it. The other character of this story though, well.. She talks about waiting for morning a lot, as she tries to avoid the night, so I’d figure she’s a human. Now, we’ve got that down, so let’s look at what else we have. She encounters Remilia after trying to stop her, is enchanted by her beauty in the middle of the song, and in the end she talks about loving her. I get the feeling of Sakuya, this being possibly a story of how she came to serve the Scarlet household. Maybe I’m being biased, but this album seems to focus more on Sakuya and Remilia anyways, while “gold*” is more about Flandre instead.

Reinterpreted, it somewhat looks like this song is more talking from the perspective of a friend of Mokou’s who’s on the brink of death instead of from Mokou’s perspective (This could be evidenced by lines such as “Rest your wings” or “becoming the only one the ‘flames’ can rely on”. “The moon waning until it hides every one of your tears”, that also sounds very much like it would be Mokou that’s crying, since we all know how long it takes a lunar cycle to go through its course. Of course, that’s not all my evidence to support this, but I’m already going into far too much detail about this as it is). This song was a real pain to word into English though, I usually try to fit the syllable count to somewhat match, but.. this one.. I couldn’t do so well about that.

Notes: In the lines 「残されてく　想いまでどうすればいいの」 and the 「行けばいいの」 one, those can be more accurately translated “What am I supposed to do until these feelings are left behind” and “How am I supposed to go towards a binding future,” but well, with the preceding lines, it would read really, really unnatural I think. I figure the translation I have in place now retains most of the meaning, that she doesn’t know what to do, while flowing more naturally.

These lyrics seem to be about Remilia’s faith in Sakuya and her power. I think I like EoSD Sakuya’s theme more than Flowering Night. I feel it represents her serious side and determination to defeat the player, her will to protect her master. Meanwhile, Flowering Night seems to show off her more “perfect, elegant maid” persona.
